Hi! I'm Alex, a British-born translator now living and working in Japan, where I translate Japanese to English for business and academia

About Me

Originally from the UK, I'm a Japanese-English translator, with over 5 years experience with Japanese language and culture. I juggled academic translation with several jobs in management consulting over 4 years before transitioning to full-time translation in 2019.
Since then, I've translated across a wide range of subjects and styles, from theses on Bhutanese architecture and computer science to university regulations and Chinese economic white papers.
I specialise in business and academic translation, particularly corporate documents/presentations/reports, white papers, and business interviews, but I particularly enjoy translations on Japanese economic history.
I hold a B.A. in Economics and Philosophy from the London School of Economics, speak fluent Japanese, and have a sharp eye for editing other people's writing. I'm currently based in Tokyo, and in my free time I can often be found cycling in the mountains of rural Japan on my trusty road bike.
I can help you with:
- Translation for business: IR reports, presentations, press releases and more
- Translation for academia: Journal articles, white papers, conference presentations
Already have a translation? I also offer proofreading and copyediting services
I'm always looking for new opportunities, so please drop me a line
